Be Honest With Yourself

Revelations 3:15-16

15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!

16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

You can tell if something is hot from looking at it. You'll see steam, it will even sizzle for a bit, however, the easiest way to know if something is hot is to touch it. A touch requires you to get up close and personal even if it's just for a slight moment. In order for you to get on fire of God, you must get up close and personal with Him.

Now this won't be something that happens overnight or instantly. You must dig deep into His word (like your doing now) and get to know Him a little bit. Take a kettle for example you put cold water in a kettle and in a few minutes, it becomes warmer and warmer and warmer and then it's hot. It becomes so hot that it sets off a sound letting the whole world know (well not necessarily the world, just the whole house) that a transformation has taken place.

In Revelations 3:15 God makes it clear that He isn't condemning you for being cold. Here we see that God actually wishes we would be hot or cold because He's not here for the on the fence thing. When you're hot or cold, God knows where you stand with Him and YOU know where you stand with Him, eliminating all confusion about your identity. See, when you're cold there is hope for you to run to God, diligently seeking Him. Likewise, when you're hot you are fully aware to renew your mind daily by studying His word and through consistent prayer.

We often hear this message preached that if your cold God has no use for you but it is when you are lukewarm when He has no use for you, that's when He spits you out. This is the point where He gets 'fed up' because you cannot make up your mind whether or not your going to serve Him or submit to the pleasures of the world. When you are lukewarm there is no purpose for anything you do or say, you're just doing whatever it takes to get by and save face. Being lukewarm, being in between, brings confusion and denial and if you can't be honest with yourself, how are you going to be honest with God?

When you're hot or cold, God knows that whatever you are doing you'll do it with passion, pouring your entire heart into it, He knows it's meaningful. Always remember that God has placed a special calling on your life. Maintain your passion for Him by drawing closer to Him through prayer and studying His word.

Today be completely honest with yourself. Are you hot, cold or lukewarm? What ever you are know that there is a way to get better, there is a way to level up. Once you recognize where you are lacking, ask God for wisdom to do and be better.

Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, I thank you for being my strength when I am weak. I thank you for your never ending grace and peace. Father, right now I come to you humbly as I ask for your guidance. Help me to be completely honest in where I stand with you and give me the wisdom and understanding to move to greater heights in you. Allow me to diligently seek you in all I do. Not my will but thine will be done Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Reflect

  • Am I hot, cold or lukewarm?

  • What steps can I take to develop my relationship with Christ?

  • What are my God given gifts and talents, and how do I use them to honor God?
